What is the easiest way to clean vertical blinds?

Have you ever done blinds cleaning before? If no... Don't worry. Here is few easiest way to clean vertical blinds. This process may take few hours, but we need to do this every few months.

Remove Blinds and Clean Headrail

Remove the blinds from the Headrail. While you can spot and dust clean with the blinds still attached, this will offer you the Headrail a deep clean at the same time. Also, you can soak all the blinds at once in the washing machine or bath rather than clean them one by one.

To get started:

  • Unhook the blind louvres (slats) from the Headrail.
  • Gently take the louvres down and lay them out flat so you can clean the Headrail.
  • Grab the microfibre duster or cloth and separate the dust from the Headrail.
  • For the tricky places to reach, a can of compressed air will get rid of dust. If you have silicone spray, give the rails a quick spray to keep everything smoothly moving.

Dust Your Blinds

With everything laid out in front of you, use the microfibre cloth to remove dust from your blinds gently. A damp cloth needs to pick up the dust nicely, but also you could use a traditional cleaning cloth or any feather duster. Move from top to bottom, capture all the dust and don't go over areas you have already cleaned.

To remove the dust, use the vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Run this over the blinds from top to bottom on both sides until they are entirely free from dust and debris.

Wash Blinds in Warm Water

Now there is no dust left on your blinds; it is time to wash them. For this, you will either want to fill a bathtub with warm water or use your washing machine in a 30 degrees Celsius wash setting. Before you start, always check out whether the blinds are machine washable.

To wash the blinds in the bathtub:

  • Fill the tub with a mixture of mild soap, warm water or any other detergent.
  • Gently scrub the blinds in the water until they clean.
  • Be careful to avoid hot water.
  • That can damage blinds, and make sure any detergents you use are suitable for gentle fabrics.

Sometimes, you will notice stubborn stains on your blinds. Use a sponge and soapy water to buff away at these stains gently. It can be tempting to use bleach, but this will damage the fabric. If you want to try a stain remover, first spot test in a hidden area to check it is suitable.

If you wash your blinds in a washing machine, secure them and roll them up inside a pillowcase to help prevent damage and fraying. Use a wash setting designed for and use a gentle laundry detergent delicate fabrics at temperatures no higher than 30 C.

Lay Blinds Out to Dry

With your blinds clean and sparkling, you will want to lay them out to dry. Avoid hanging them to dry, and instead of it, find a space where you can lay them on a flat surface. That will help encourage them to maintain their usual shape and prevent damage.

If you need the blinds to dry quickly, try using a hairdryer in a relaxed setting. Don't be tempted to put the blinds in the tumble dryer — the heat can severely damage the blinds.

Rehang Blinds on the Headrail

When the blinds are completely dry, you can start to rehang them on the Headrail. Take care of all the when doing this job, especially as you clip every louvre back into place.

Soon you will have your blinds back in place and looking refreshed. Now they are clean; it is easier to keep on top of the regular dusting schedule and keep them looking as best as possible.
